3. Context for NSIDC Data Systems
Data management and data access processes continuously evolve.
We plan upgrades and changes to our systems all the time, and have done so since the inception of the Data Center.
Several factors have converged at this point in time which have or will cause fairly significant changes in our data management activities. We wish to convey our approach and plans to the UWG.

While the internal NSIDC DAAC systems are not part of the evolution of ECS per se, they do require a complementary data management pathway
