Work with a partner to create a Somatic Cell!
Create replicated chromosomes by twisting two pipe-cleaners of the same color together
Each partner is responsible for making one set of chromosomes (either chromosomes from mom, or dad)
Mom=white, dad=green
Use a whiteboard and whiteboard marker to show the cell boundaries

Now continue to model what the chromosomes look like during MEIOSIS II PROPHASE 2 METAPHASE 2 ANAPHASE 2 TELOPHASE 2 FINAL SPERM CELLS

5. MEIOSIS Pipecleaner Activity
Now model “Non-disjunction 2” Go back and use pipe-cleaners to model what happens to the 4 chromosomes when one of the chromatids does not separate during Anaphase II. Get Ms. Grant to check your cells, and draw the daughter cells produced at the end of Meiosis II

6. MEIOSIS Pipecleaner Activity
Now model “Non-disjunction 1” using pipe-cleaners to model what happens to the 4 chromosomes when one of the homologous pair does not separate during Anaphase I.
Show Ms Grant the final sperm, and draw the cells produced at the end of Meiosis II
