Despite a great desire to pursue a career as a doctor after meeting Elizabeth Blackwell, things were not easy for Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Despite having all the qualifications needed, she was rejected from all Medical schools and was forced to enrol as a nursing student Men also complained and had her banned from any classes she attended with them!!!!!!

Even though she was fully qualified, she was still rejected by the British Medical register on the grounds of her gender Instead of giving up, Elizabeth set-up a new hospital for women and continued to campaign for equal opportunities Eventually, in 1876, the ban was lifted!!!!!

7 Famous quote about Elizabeth Garrett Anderson
Despite her husband being very supportive, Elizabeth received a lot of pressure from her family to stay at home and behave in the “traditional manner.” She said the following about this pressure: “When I felt rather overcome with my father’s opposition, I said as firmly as I could, that I must have this or something else, that I could not live without some real work.”
