1 WISE Floods drafting Group
10-11 June2010 Mette Wolstrup

2 Floods Directive

3 Floods visualisation To ensure consistency with existing WISE standards, information reported by MS’s is likely to be visualised at the European level at a scale of 1:250,000. At the European scale there will therefore be a limit to the size of objects and features that can be visualised. More detailed information would therefore be accessed through national datasets and servers. At larger scales, the intention would be to create links to national servers where more detailed information can be derived. Described in "Concept paper on reporting and compliance checking for the Floods Directive"

4 Simple implementation
Purpose of the proof of concept project is to highlight the issues and help define practical steps towards implementation. Content not releveant at this stage – technical and procedural requirements being addressed. Floods drafting group volunteers: Austria, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Czech Republic Sweden and Germany provided the services Map Services/test/WMS_demo_Floods Making use of an existing simple viewer for this demonstration

5 INSPIRE Do not want to invent new standards Follow INSPIRE
Inspire View services (OGC Web Mapping Service) Inspire Metadata INSPIRE lays down the techncial specifications, need to look at INSPIRE and provide guidance on what to implement specifically for Floods

6 Architecture The central portal needs to be able to handle fetching all these services in a production environment. Need to have a system which can intelligently deal with urls which do not work for some reason. Responsibilites for ensuring service delivery need to be defined. Conclusions: Need to work with the EEA on how the central portal should be built Define some protocol and registering and maintaining services

7 Map content Not considered so far! Can be considered in parallel to technical development. What should go on the map? Many possibilities. Decide on contents in Floods drafting group Extend the Flood mapping Atlas into specific guidelines for how different features are styled (colour etc). Set up a process of development and agreement for specifc maps- map specification (what content and what style) Obvious issues – ignore cross border harmonisation. Acceptance by MS on how to deal with classifications of risk (disclaimer?)

8 Outputs Demostrator gives a basis for further development.
Atkins will provide a document which will outline the scope of the proof of concept, suggested specifications, analysis of Inspire, responsibilities, workflows. Available to EEA, WISE TG and Floods drafting for review in the next two weeks. Start the map specification process in the Floods drafting group – one map to start! Consider future support to MS manuals/cookbooks/training/helpdesk
