1. First Year Students

2. To conclude the First Years’ Orientation Week Law House is planning an “Amazing Race” for the First Years on Thursday, 31 January 2019 at 15:00.
The aim of this activity is to introduce each Law House Executive Committee Member to the First Years, as well as giving new students a brief overview of the Hatfield campus and venues which they are likely to use during their studies.
Most First Years find themselves lost with no direction to their lecture halls, test venues and other buildings thus Law house wishes to introduce them to the main venues through this Amazing Race which will occur on campus.
On the day, the First Years will meet outside of Law House (Ground Floor, First Quad in the Law Building) where the social heads will explain the rules as well as give the students a brief explanation of what Law house is and that this location is where they can find us during the semester.
The students will be requested to divide themselves into
teams thus promoting socialising amongst students.

3. The social heads will give each team a different riddle which will lead the team
to a different location on campus. At this location they will have to look out for another EC member who will introduce themselves, their portfolio and what it has to offer them as well as any relevant information about the location they are at, which will then be followed by a short activity before the team receives their next riddle. Riddles will vary in difficulty, some will be straight forward whilst others would require some research which encourages students to make use of the UP website to look for answers.
Once teams have collected each riddle the finishing line will be outside “Aandklas” which will then conclude our First Year activity. ‘Aandklas’ offers karaoke, pool tables and other activities to socialise with one another after the race. Law House will sponsor a R500 bar tab as a prize to the winning team which will be shared amongst the other teams one a first come, first served basis as motivation to finish the race against time and one another.
We look forward to hosting an informative and successful First Year Orientation experience.
