This project will help us to understand - Jeju culture - the symbolism of a craft / image / sculpture We will learn how to - crosshatch - carve

4 Create a Crosshatch drawing of a jeju statue
Things to remember… Sketch out the basic shapes first Use lines that are close together and overlap a lot to create the darkest tones Use lines that are more spaced out and not so overlapped to create the lighter tones

5 Create a soap carving of a jeju statue
Things to remember… “draw” out your design on the soap first Carefully carve out the deep / negative shapes so the the “sticking out parts” / positive shapes are left
