1 Bathrooms Beginning ESL Lesson
ESL Lesson about bathroom vocabulary: Designed for beginning low ESL students. Includes pictures and easy vocabulary words. Works well with basic English picture dictionaries. Can be shown on interactive whiteboards. Beginning ESL Lesson

2 bathtub The boy is in the bathtub. He is taking a bubble bath.
Ask students where the boy is and what he is doing. Ask what kind of toy he is playing with.

3 shower The man is taking a shower.
He is scrubbing his back with a scrub brush. Survey the class to find out who takes a shower and who takes a bath. Write the numbers on the board.

4 sink This is a bathroom sink. Water is coming out of the faucet.
Explain the difference between the words clogged up and overflowing.

5 plunger We use a plunger to unclog sinks and toilets.
Write the vocabulary words clog and unclog. Explain that the letter “un” before a word mean that it is the opposite of the base word.

6 faucet Water comes out of a faucet.
Faucets have cold water and hot water. Point to the dripping water and give a short lecture on how water is wasted when faucets drip.

7 mirror There is a mirror above the bathroom sink.
We can see our faces in the mirror. Ask students what they can do in front of a mirror. Example: shave or put on make-up.

8 toilet This is a toilet. The lid is up.
It’s always fun to ask who leaves the lid up.

9 toilet paper . This is a roll of toilet paper.
Explain that toilet paper can be one-ply or two-ply.

10 towel The towel is hanging on a towel rack.
Find out what students use towels for. Examples: to wipe their face, wipe their hands, clean the bathroom counter, etc.

11 towel rack Bathrooms have towel racks. We hang towels on a towel rack.
Demonstrate the action of hanging up a towel.

12 toothpaste & toothbrush
We brush our teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Survey the class to find out if anyone uses an electric toothbrush.

13 dental floss We use dental floss to clean between our teeth.
Stress the importance of using dental floss to prevent gum disease.

14 wastebasket The wastebasket is full of trash.
Point out that another word for “wastebasket” is “trashcan”.

15 blow dryer We can dry our hair with a blow dryer.
Explain that blow dryers add bounce to limp hair.

16 curling iron Women curl their hair with a curling iron.
Stress that curling irons should not be used around water.

17 make-up Some women wear make-up.
Women look in the mirror when they put on their make-up. Ask the class to name the types of make-up that are show in the picture. Example: lipstick, blush, eye shadow, etc.

18 scale The man is standing on a scale. He weighs 185 pounds. 185 lbs.
Find out who has a bathroom scale. Is it digital? Some scales talk!! 185 lbs.
