1 *Use notes from yesterday!
Q.Q. 10/16/18 Tape the QQ in your notebook on a clean page and answer all the questions! (10 mins only then we are checking!) *Use notes from yesterday!

2 How did you recharge your ATP this morning???
What did you eat for breakfast?

3 Chemical Energy and ATP Part 2 Energy Categories and Transfer

4 Two Types of “feeders” Autotrophs = make their own food .
Auto = Self Troph = to feed Examples? Green plants, algae, cyanobacteria Heterotrophs = can not make their own so they consume other things Hetero = different

5 Autotrophs How do Autotrophs get their “food”? Photosynthesis Photo = Light Synthesis = to make Therefore Photosynthesis means to make own food using light energy

6 Autotrophs (Continued)
Light Energy Plants convert the energy from the sun into glucose (food). They use this energy to fuel other chemical reactions or they store it as GLUCOSE (in their leaves/stem, etc.) or as starch (in potatoes, corn, beans, etc.) *long strands of glucose

7 Where does photosynthesis occur in plants?
The chloroplast!

8 Flip your page over and draw a Chloroplast with all labels!
*Sunlight hits the THYLAKOIDS and begins the photosynthesis process!

9 Chlorophyll Green pigment in thylakoids disks
Light hits and REFLECTS GREEN wavelengths of light- that’s why plants appear green to your eyes!

10 Heterotrophs Heterotrophs obtain food from autotrophs or from other heterotrophs Carnivores eat beef (cow) cows eat autotrophs Without AUTOTROPHS and HETEROTROPHS life as we know it on earth would not exist…

11

12 Heterotrophs (Consumers) Carnivores
Carnivorous Plants

13 Heterotrophs (Consumers) Herbivores

14 Heterotrophs (Consumers) Omnivores
Omnivore army ants

15 Light Energy Let’s Review!
What energy do autotrophs use to make their own food? Light Energy

16 What sugar is produced during photosynthesis?
Glucose

17 In what cellular organelle does photosynthesis occur?
Chloroplast

18 What are the tiny disk-like structures in chloroplast that contain chlorophyll?
Thylakoids
