ENERGY THE ABILITY TO DO WORK

ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE ATP- ENERGY STORING COMPOUND. IT RELEASES ENERGY WHEN A BOND IS BROKEN BETWEEN THE PHOSPHATES.

ENERGY USERS AUTOTROPHS- MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD (PRODUCERS) HETEROTROPHS- GO OUT & GET FOOD (CONSUMERS)

Why Are Most Plants Green? Chlorophyll, the pigment in plants absorbs mostly blue and red wavelengths, and do not absorb green. The green is reflected so that is the color they appear to us. Carrots contain carotenoids which are pigments that reflect yellow, orange, and red, so they appear yellow or orange to us.

Photosynthesis The process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria capture and convert solar energy into chemical energy. Supports all life on earth. Occurs in the chloroplasts Chlorophyll is a green pigment that captures light Carbon dioxide + Water Sugar(Glucose) + Oxygen Chloroplast Light

The process Plants use the sun’s energy to make carbs from water & CO 2. This reaction releases oxygen.

formula 6CO 2 + 6H 2 O  C 6 H 12 0 6 + 6O 2 From the equation: Answer What are the products? What are the reactants? What else is required for the reaction to take place? How much water does it take to produce 2 molecules of sugar? Where does this reaction take place? What is the reaction called? What happens to the glucose afterwards? What happens to the oxygen?

CELLULAR RESPIRATION Def: Process where ALL living things obtain energy from their food Uses Carbohydrates and oxygen to produce Carbon dioxide, water and energy.

Formula C 6 H 12 0 6 + O 2  CO 2 + H 2 O +ATP Where: Mitochondria of all cells

conclusion Photosynthesis and cellular respiration form a continuous cycle Energy and food
