Female’s usually lay around eggs, but one nest was found with more than 40!
Young chicks jump up to 50 feet from the nest at just 1 day old and must walk with their mother sometimes half a mile to water.
Dive to the bottom of lakes and rivers to hunt small fish, aquatic insects, crustaceans (especially crayfish), amphibians, vegetation, and mollusks.
