Further maturation of IL-22+ cells to lytic IFN-γ+ NK cells is inhibited by IL-1β but promoted by IL-15. “Dual precursor” model (right) proposes distinct dedicated precursors for IL-22+ ILC and classical NK cells that are driven by IL-1β and IL-15, respectively.
