1 Transition into Year 1

2 What changes? Curriculum
Children will no longer follow the EYFS and will move onto the new National Curriculum. The first couple of weeks there will be some play based activities but this moves towards a more formal teaching. Increased independence. Big push on homework including spellings, maths and reading. General Children will be able to bring a purse to purchase snack from the snack trolley. They will still have access to free fruit each day at morning play. They will have two PE lessons a week and will need an indoor and outdoor kit in school every day. They will need their own named water bottle. Children will line up on the playground to come to school.

3 Preparing the children
In school Transition morning with their new teacher on Tuesday 17th July. All information including Data and reports are shared with the Yr.1 teacher. The Yr.1 and Reception teachers swap for story time. Children are sent to the Yr.1 teacher for rewards and to show work. Children will write a letter to their new teacher telling them about themselves Lining up on the play ground Starting on Tuesday 17th July we will line up in the playground. The children need to be lined up by 8.55am and we will lead them in through the reception gate. Once the gate is closed parents need to take children round to the main entrance. Teachers will be available on the playground from 8.50am for very brief messages but for more detailed conversations you will need to book an appointment.

4 Getting Ready in Reception
Big push to consolidate number formation 0 to 9. Whole class teaching sessions… all sit down and complete activity independently. Trick word spelling Independent writing.

5 6 weeks is a long time especially when your 5!
Over the holidays Encourage your child to keep reading either books from the library or we are able to loan small bundles for the holidays if you pop in after school. Developing their understanding of what they have read is just as important as saying the words. Writing, writing, writing! Encourage them to write little and often. Either letters to friends, postcards, a diary or just for fun! Colouring, painting and Lego – great ways to keep the finger muscles strong and nimble. This will help maintain good fine motor control and painting skills. Number problem solving and recognition. 6 weeks is a long time especially when your 5!

6 Ending the Year

7 Reports Reports are due to go out on Friday 13th July.
We send out a photocopy for parents to write comments on. Please return them to school and we will exchange them for the final official colour version. If your have any questions about the reports there is an Open Evening from 3.30pm to 5pm on Tuesday 17th July.

8 In the report children are assessed as either Emerging, Expected or Exceeding against the 17 Early Learning Goals. If your child is Emerging don’t panic! It simply means extra support will be put in place in Year One. If your child is Emerging you are invited to book an appointment with the Yr.1 and Reception teachers to discuss next steps and how best to support them in Yr.1.

9 On Thursday 5th July in the morning (reserve sports day – Monday 9th July)
All children compete in each race or field activity. Parents, siblings and family are welcome to attend. There will be chairs but it might be worth bringing a picnic blanket. The children will be sent home with their PE kits on Wednesday. They will need to wear trainers or PE pumps, green PE shorts, sun hat and a colour top to match their house (see the house point chart or ask your child) Send your child with a water bottle.

10 Class Assembly Friday 6th July 9.15am (get their early to get a good seat) Don’t panic if they get upset! When the assembly finishes there will be time to see the children. Please help them learn their words over the weekend. We hope to showcase the children's talents!

11 End of Year Celebrations Messy Day
To celebrate the end of Reception in previous years the children have requested a messy day full of painting, mud splats, flour, water and water slides! Provisional date on Monday 23rd July. Please send them in clothes that are ok to get very, VERY messy! And a spare set of clothes for them to get changed into before they come home.

12 HELP!!!!!!! At the end of each year we need to clean all the equipment! If any parents could possibly take a box of toys home to ‘spring clean’ we would be very grateful!

13 That’s all folks! The children are going to come back and we have an ‘End of Year’ review for you and your child to complete together.
