Relevance Challenges Often private sector (ps) sees itself as a customer for graduates but not as co-responsible for TVET Distanced attitude leads to criticism or complaints against the state protagonists/TVET schools and training centers Mismatch of supply and demand Strategy Participation/involvement/engagement of the ps increase the relevance, quality and attractiveness trough vocational training at the end TVET as a whole Enhancing the engagement of ps in designing and implementing TVET in different areas of engagement (next slide) Better identification of ps with TVET Integration of TVET graduates in the personnel recruitment of the ps Participation leads to higher appreciation and reputation of TVET Positive effects on school leavers/graduates and their parents in the transition from school to training (threshold 1)) and employment (threshold 2) Stefan

Messages Involvement of the ps in TVET is historical growth/cultural issue Rational behind the - missing or weak – involvement of the ps depends e.g. from the predominant economic structure in a country like Size: small vs medium-sized vs large Stability: robust vs fragile Origin: domestic vs foreign Technology intensity: low vs medium vs high Sectoral development intensity: dynamic-progressive vs static vs regressive The criteria large size, robust stability, foreign origin, high technology intensity and dynamic sectoral development are driver for the involvement and an interst of the private sector to have an capable in-company training Engagement of ps increase the relevance, quality and attractiveness of TVET Especially the involvement of the ps in the area of engagement “governance” (core area with special respect to coordination) is expedient Stefan
