1 Differences Colossians 2:4-8

2 Common Situations Today

3 The Source of Authority
1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? Matthew 15:1-3

4 Oversight & Organization of Religious groups
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 1 Peter 5:2

5 Worship 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:21-24

6 Salvation There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

7 Salvation O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. Jeremiah 10:23

8 Defining terms

9 What is a denomination? 1. According to Webster’s Dictionary: “one of a series of units separately named” 2. Denominationalism is defined as “a disposition to divide into or form denominations. 3. The word denomination means a named or designated division.

10 What is a denomination? A religious people and religious groups forming themselves, clustering themselves, on the basis of different designations, different names with differing doctrines, and different church affiliations.

11 Is denominationalism what Christ desired?
Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. John 17:11

12 Is denominationalism what Christ desired?
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:

13 Is denominationalism what Christ desired?
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. John 17:20-23

14 Lessons for us today

15 Deviating from the Bible is not the pattern.
1. Every denomination says they are following the Bible, but are they? 2. If this is the case why are most who claim such teaching so many different things?

16 Non-Truth(Error) comes from not following the Bible
1. Teachings that are untrue come when departing from Bible teaching. 2. Teachings that are untrue, cannot be pleasing to God.

17 Conclusion Denominations teach different things…
All say they are right… But, can all teach differently and all be right?
