4 Types of Resumes Chronological - focus on a series of employment experiences Advantage: Emphasizes consistent employment history Good for demonstrating a steady employment record and increasing levels of responsibility Functional - focus on skills and accomplishments Organizes information into groups of skills Emphasizes qualifications needed in a specific occupation Persons with employment gaps can advertise skills and abilities Combination - a combination of both

5 A resume should: A resume should not:
Be on 8.5” x 11” paper in white or ivory Be visually appealing and easy to read Use bolding, underlining and/or italics to stress major points Be written in conventional fonts (Times Roman, Garamond, Calibri) A resume should not: Be too long - keep to 1-2 pages Be hard to read - keep it visually organized Be too wordy - say as much as possible in as few words as possible Contain spelling or grammatical errors Be dishonest
