Empathy Tolerance Fairness Patience Generous Acceptance

4 Consequences Fix it In our classroom, the student is responsible for their own actions. If a poor choice is made, the student will be given up to three verbal warnings. If behaviour persists, one or more of the following will occur: Make up for lost learning time Natural/Logical consequence /Phone parents or guardians For example, if a student is speaking out of turn they will be given a verbal warning. I will say, “What is your job?” The student should then give an appropriate answer that reflects an understanding of their job. For example, he or she could say, “It is my job to raise my hand if I wish to speak”. Problem solved! However, if the student continues to interrupt, they may be given any of the above consequences. In the event of severe negative behaviours, three warning may be given and the student responsible may be referred to the office and a parent or guardian will be contacted.

5 Daily blog and Classroom Website
This year, instead of sending a daily , I will be using a website with a blog. The website will include a blog of what we covered each day, important information, school calendar, educational technology websites, and the “I Can Statements” that we will be covering throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to me at the address that is provided on the webpage. It is extremely important to check this website on a regular basis to ensure that you are up-to-date with what is going on in our classroom and in the school. The link is:

6 “I Can Statements” "I Can Statements" are going to be an important part of our school year.  These statements are based around the learning outcomes that we will be covering throughout the year.  I will be sending you all a copy of the “I Can Statements” that we will be touching upon each term.  This will give you a better understanding of what we are learning in the classroom. For evaluations, the students will receive rubrics based on the “I Can Statements”. The level of achievement follows a continuum, which will help determine where students are struggling and what areas need to be improved upon. On the report card, you will see 4 different options which are: Not Yet Meeting – The students does not yet meet the grade level learning outcomes. They are missing knowledge or understanding that is preventing him/her from meeting the learning outcomes. Beginning to Meet – The student is beginning to show progress toward the grade level outcomes. There is some evidence of grade level learning; however, some assistance is needed. Meeting Outcomes – The students is showing mastery with grade level learning outcomes. There is evidence that learning outcomes have been met. Enriched Understanding – The students is showing an in depth understanding of the learning outcomes. There is evidence that the student is engaged in high level analysis and problem solving.

7 Communication I believe that communication between school and home is very important. It is essential to ensure that there is support and a link between the teacher/parent/student relationship. It is for that reason that I provide you with the daily blog, the website and a student portfolio. Beyond that, if I notice any issues or problems with your child, you can expect either an , a phone call or a request for a meeting. This year, students will be creating digital portfolios to record progress of learning. We will be used the program called Fresh Grade. There is a link on our classroom website; however, there is also on app you can download on your personal device. I will be showing students how to use the program to ensure that they consistently update their progress. It is important to know that this is an opportunity to create dialogue with your child on their progress. You need to have these conversations with them to ensure we are all on the same page. They should be able to answer any of the questions you have; therefore, please ask them how they are doing before you ask me!

8 Digital Portfolios This year, students will have access to a digital portfolio through the program called Fresh Grade. I have set up a classroom account for all students. With this program, students can upload documents, presentations, pictures, videos and links to show what they have learned. They can also include assessment tools to monitor how well they are doing and what they need to work on. Parents will be able to have access to these portfolios to ensure that they are up-to-date with what is going on in the classroom, how their child is doing and communicate their successes or concerns. We will first get a good grasp of you to use it and once the students and I are comfortable, I will sending a request to parents to join and view the portfolios. There is an app you can download to receive notifications when something is added or assessed! Please provide feedback with what you like and do not like about the program! You will also have access to their assignments through OneNote. I have already sent you all the link to your son/daughters OneNote Binder, so please have a look. This is provide you with an overview of everything that we are doing in the classroom!

9 Homework Students will have some homework throughout the school year. However, I do not believe in sending hours of homework home each night. They will be given a generous amount of class time to complete assignments. If they choose to work productively in class, they are likely to have a minimal amount of homework. Students must remember to put time and effort into their work. If there is homework that needs to be handed back, there will be a homework check each morning. Those who do not finish their homework, will need to accept the consequences and spend extra time to finish up their curricular obligations. Parents will be notified through FreshGrade and Scholantis if there is an overdue assignment or project. This year, we will not be using agendas. All homework that is due with be on Fresh Grade, Remind App as well as, our classroom website. Students can also take a picture of the homework board with their devices so that they know what they need to do.
