4 Why use scientific names?
1. Used worldwide Written in latin (dead language) 2. Avoid common name confusion 3. Both are underlined for easy recognition.

Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Family: Hominidae Genus: Homo Specific Epithet: sapiens

7 Phylogeny – evolutionary history of a species
Phylogenetic tree – diagram that shows the evolutionary relationship among organisms. Dichotomous key – set of choices that leads to the name of the organism Key out an organism according to its characteristics.
