1 Instructions Week of Jan. 5-9

2 Class Policies Quiz After reviewing the classroom policies and procedures, the students took a quiz. This quiz contains questions that were directly from the PowerPoint that was used to review the policies and procedures.

3 Making Inferences (Guided Practice)
Discuss what an inference is and how to make an inference. Read the passage titled “Zoo” by Edward D. Hoch through one time. Reread the passage and make inferences for the underlined sentences in the passage.

4 Making Inferences (Independent Practice)
Students read the text titled “Who’s Afraid of Vesuvius? (Pompeii is History)” by Frank Bruni. Students respond to the comprehension questions at the end of the passage and cite evidence for their answers. The evidence should be information that is pulled from the text that can support the answer selected. Students respond to the short response question that asks their opinion. Evidence should be cited to support the opinion that is made.

5 Inference Matching Game
Write a cause and effect sentence. Get your sentence approved by Ms. Haarer before you continue. Write the CAUSE on the sentence strip. Draw a picture of the EFFECT on a blank sheet of paper. When all students are finished, you will be placed into a group. Your group will be matching the sentence strips to the pictures. Your job is to use the clues in the pictures to infer (or guess) what would have caused that effect.
