1 Chapter 4 – Plants and Animals Living Together

2 How do living things get energy?
Many living things fall into these three categories: PRODUCERS (example – plants) DECOMPOSERS (example – fungi) CONSUMERS Parasites Omnivores Herbivores Carnivores

3 FOOD CHAINS Energy passes to living things within food chains.
Prey is any animal that is eaten by other animals. Predators are consumers who get their energy from other animals. All living things depend on other living things in one way or another.

5 FOOD WEBS

6 Food chains vs food webs

7 It’s your turn! Play the food chain game!

8 Directions How to play: Shuffle the cards. Turn them face down.
The player whose first name is closer to Z will go first. Round 1: Pick a card and read it. Round 2 on: Either pick a card or steal a card. You may not steal a card if it is already part of a food chain. It is “safe” in a food chain. Every time you make a food chain, write it down on your score card. 1 point for each card; 2 bonus points if 4 or more cards or a food web. At the end of the game, add up how many points you have. I will walk around and answer questions as needed.
