5. Curriculum Statement Key characteristics of the JFC curriculum:

Regardless of starting points, all students access an aspirational curriculum
All students study Humanities to GCSE and where recruitment allows, the vast majority will study a language over their 5 years at JFC
In addition to core curriculum, students are offered a wide range of option subjects
Clear focus on transition between primary and secondary (MET)
John Ferneley College is highly committed to offering all students the opportunity to take part in a wide range of enrichment activities, through sport, performance and outdoor and adventurous activities

6. What do I need to know before I start?
Subjects are organised into 2 option blocks
Your child will choose one Humanities subject and then have three free choices from block 2. (Also choose two reserve subjects from block 2)
We will aim to accommodate first choices but there are no promises!

9. What is the English Baccalaureate (EBacc)?
Awarded to students that achieve a grade 4 or above in the following:

GCSE Science (Combined) or (Triple)

10. EBacc
Government are targeting all schools to enter 75% of students for EBACC route by 2022
Most schools have been rapidly increasing entry over last four years
Many schools have said 100% entry

12. JFC’s response so far…
Children first – only at pace that is right for our community
Currently EBACC entry is lagging compared with local schools – and nationally
Duty of care to children – in the future, are we equipping young people with qualifications to have a fair chance, against their peers?
Significant investment in Humanities and MFL to ensure not only entry but achievement for ALL

Read the booklet with them
Encourage a discussion – try to get them to talk you!
