As we go through the styles Some of the descriptions will elicit different responses from different styles e.g.. “tough” and “demanding” can be viewed as somewhat negative, but D styles are actually comfortable with these. The Styles Key Adjectives and Descriptions 1

Descriptive terms project leader, idea creator, pioneer, changer, thinks future, adventurous, initiator, re-organiser Most Assertive Likes shaking up the environment & overcoming opposition to get results. Likes to be in charge and make things happen. Leads and controls. Decisive Tough Strong-willed Demanding Competitive Independent Self-Confident 2

Descriptive terms Stimulator, performer, optimist, idea generator, participator, outgoing, happy Most Social Likes connecting & interacting with others. Often the center of attention. Sees the positive side of life and people. Socialable Talkative Open Enthusiastic Energetic Persuasive Inspiring 3

4 Styles: The S Style - Steadiness
Descriptive terms a doer, family-oriented, doesn’t get in your face, happy to follow, helpful, balancing force, good instructor, deliberate, stable, systematic, thoughtful Most Calm Likes a steady and safe environment so tends to not like change or surprises. Fairness and justice are important. Often agreeable on the surface. Can tend to focus on the negatives. Calm Steady Careful Patient Good Listener Modest Trustworthy 4

5 Styles: The C Style - Compliance
Descriptive terms analytical, quality controller, criticiser, specialist, detailed, perfectionist Most Cautious Likes things to be correct, in logical order and have a lot of detail. Avoids mistakes, strives for perfection. Tends to be very eager to learn if it contributes to their quality of work. Can be perceived as a bit aloof and doesn’t need a lot of people interaction. Precise Follows Rules Logical Careful Formal Disciplined Reserved 5
