Condom Effectiveness KNOW HIV/AIDS 9th Grade Mr. Martin

2 Condoms Latex Condoms are highly effective against sexual transmission of HIV when used consistently and correctly used during sexual intercourse.

3 Condoms Condoms reduce transmission of genital ulcers, HPV and other STDs.

4 Condoms Latex condoms can help prevent the transmission of HIV, STDs and pregnancy. Study: 123 couples , one of whom was HIV positive, used condoms at the end of the year no one tested positive for HIV. However, 10% (8 of 55) tested positive for HIV for inconsistence condoms use.

5 How to use Condoms Correct use involves:
Consistent use means using a condom from start to finish with every act of sexual intercourse. Use a new condom every time you have sex (anal, oral or vaginal). Put the condom on before the penis touches any part of your partners mouth, anus, or vagina.

6 How to use Condoms To put condom on, pinch the reservoir tip of the condom, then unroll it all the way down the penis. Always ensure that that no air is trapped in the tip. It can cause the condom to break. If you feel a condom break during sex, stop, pull out, and put on a new condom. After ejaculation and while the penis is still erect, hold the rim of the condom and carefully withdraw so no semen is spilled.

7 Condom Facts Never use a oil-based lubricant. These can weaken the condom and cause the condom to break. Condoms should be stored in a drawer or closet. Store them in a cool, dry, dark place, and out of the direct sunlight. Condoms may become brittle or gummy. Never use a condom that is discolored, brittle or sticky. Only use a condom once.

8 Latex Condoms Latex Condoms are excellent quality products.
Rigorously tested ( leak sent back) When condoms fail, it is usually due to user error.

9 Review Abstinence provides 100% protection from HIV, STD infection and unplanned pregnancy. Latex condoms help prevent the spread of HIV and STD infection. Condoms are NOT 100% effective in preventing HIV, STDs, and Pregnancy.
