1 Bishop Aldhelms Pupil Survey 2016

2 What we did: We came up with a series of questions to ask the pupils at Bishop Aldhelms. We asked 118 pupils in total: 59 boys; 59 girls; 50 KS1 pupils and 68 KS2 pupils. They had a choice of answering our 13 questions with- 1/ Strongly agree, 2/ Agree 3/ Disagree or 4/ Strongly disagree. We then averaged their answers, rounding them to the nearest decimal place.

These results show that children feel happy at our school. All children 1.4 Boys Girls Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6

5 The staff care about me at Bishop Aldhelms.
All children 1.5 Boys 1.6 Girls Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6 These results show that children at our school feel that the staff care about them. KS2 think that the staff care about them more than KS1.

6 I can achieve my potential in learning because I am taught how to do it.
The girls, over the whole school, feel they achieve their potential more than the boys. All children 1.6 Boys 1.7 Girls 1.5 Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6

7 It is easy to make friends at Bishop Aldhelms.
All Children 1.7 Boys 1.6 Girls 1.8 Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6 These results show that KS1 children feel its easier to make friends than KS2 pupils.

8 The next steps in my book help to improve.
These results show that girls think they improve more than boys because of the next steps in their book. All Children 1.7 Boys 1.8 Girls 1.6 Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6

9 I am interested in my work.
All Children 1.7 Boys 1.6 Girls 1.8 Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6 These results show that KS2 pupils are more interested in their work than KS1 pupils.

10 I am challenged in my lessons – I do not always find the work too easy.
This shows that boys find their lessons more challenging than girls. All Children 1.7 Boys Girls Years F, 1, 2 1.6 Years 3, 4,5,6 1.8

11 I think that the amount of homework given is good.
All Children 1.8 Boys Girls 1.7 Years F, 1, 2 1.6 Years 3, 4,5,6 1.9 These results show that more girls than boys think the amount of homework given is good.

12 I am encouraged to help and respect others .
These results show KS1 pupils feel they are encouraged more to help and respect others more than KS2 students. All Children 1.7 Boys 1.9 Girls 1.5 Years F, 1, 2 1.6 Years 3, 4,5,6

13 My opinions are listened to.
All Children 1.7 Boys Girls Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6 Boys over the whole school feel their opinions are listened to more than girls.

14 The teachers try to stop children who act like bullies.
All Children 1.6 Boys 1.5 Girls Years F, 1, 2 Years 3, 4,5,6 Children in KS1 think the teachers try to stop the children who act like bullies more than KS2 pupils.

15 Some children wanted to add extra comments on our survey - here is what they said:
Foundation, girl: ‘People are being mean to me.’ Year 2, boy: ‘To make the school a better place.’ Year 1, boy: ‘If naughty words are said, tell the teacher.’ Year 6, girl: ‘Bishop Aldhelms is a great school and I am happy to be here.’ Year 6, boy: ‘I think school is fun and everyone should have an education.’ Year 5, girl: ‘I think we should be taught more art and PE.’ Year 4, girl: ‘Could we have things on the field like swings, slides and obstacle set?’ Year 5, girl: ‘I think our school is very good.’ Year 6, girl: ‘I like my friends and school.’ Year 6, boy: ‘The reason I put disagree for ‘my opinions are listened to’ is because most stuff is decided by vote – 1 person won’t really go against 500 others. Basically as our school opinions are listened to, but as an individual they are not.’
