2 When was Fibromyalgia recognized?
In 1987 fibromyalgia was first recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a defined disease entity and cause of illness and disability. What IS Fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is a long-term condition that causes pain in a person's muscles, joints, and other soft tissues

3 Fibromyalgia affects as many as 4 million Americans 18 and older
Fibromyalgia affects as many as 4 million Americans 18 and older. The average age range at which fibromyalgia is diagnosed is 35 to 45 years old, but most people have had symptoms, including chronic pain, that started much earlier in life. Also, Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men.

4 Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include:
Extreme tiredness, called fatigue, that does not get better with sleep or rest Cognitive and memory problems (sometimes called “fibro fog”) Trouble sleeping Mood problems Morning fatigue Muscle fatigue, causing them to twitch or cramp Headaches Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) Painful menstrual periods Numbness or tingling of hands and feet Restless legs syndrome Temperature sensitivity Sensitivity to loud noises or bright lights Depression or anxiety Most Common symptoms: Chronic (long-term), widespread pain is the most common symptom of fibromyalgia.

5 What systems are affected by Fibromyalgia?
Well, physically, the nervous and muscular system. This is because this disease causes nerve damage, inflecting pain in the nerves. Also, Fibromyalgia causes muscle fatigue, causing them to twitch or cramp Lastly, there is numbness or tingling of hands and feet.

6 What causes Fibromyalgia?
Well, researchers are not sure exactly what causes fibromyalgia. Genetics may play a role.

7 How could fibromyalgia be treated?
Talk therapy Medicine to treat your pain  The Food and Drug Administration has approved three medicines to treat fibromyalgia: pregabalin, duloxetine, and milnacipran. Your doctor may also suggest pain relievers or antidepressants to treat certain symptoms or to prevent flare-ups. Counseling sessions with a trained counselor can teach you different skills and techniques you can use to better control your pain. This type of therapy can be either one on one or in groups with a therapist. Living with a chronic condition like fibromyalgia can be difficult. Support groups may also give you emotional support and help you cope.

How can you prevent fibromyalgia? Well, you can really prevent it. Proper treatment and lifestyle changes can help reduce the frequency and severity of your symptoms.

10 How does fibromyalgia affect a person’s daily life?
If the person works, this may affect where they work. For instance, if they sit all day, they might not be able to handle sitting down all day. Also, if they live in a stressful work environment, the work place may make the Fibromyalgia symptoms worse.
