1 Changing Levels of Performance
The Body in Action Changing Levels of Performance Mr G Davidson

2 Muscles The strength and efficiency of muscles can be affected by many factors. After hard or long exercise the muscles ache. This is because they don’t have enough oxygen and there is a build up of LACTIC ACID. This is called MUSCLE FATIGUE. Thursday, 28 February 2019 G Davidson

3 Muscles When we exercise our muscles need more food and more oxygen.
The heart rate must increase to send more blood high in food and oxygen to the muscles. Our breathing rate must also increase to take in more oxygen. Thursday, 28 February 2019 G Davidson

4 Muscles A trained athlete’s heart sends out much more blood per beat.
His heart rate doesn’t rise as much as that of an ordinary person. After exercise the heart takes time to return to normal – this is called the RECOVERY TIME. Thursday, 28 February 2019 G Davidson

5 Recovery Time Thursday, 28 February 2019 G Davidson

6 Reaction Times Your reaction time is a measure of how quickly you can respond to a stimulus from the environment. Exercise is described as “aerobic” if enough oxygen can be taken in to break down the food completely to release energy. If there is not enough oxygen it is described as “anaerobic”. Reaction Timer Thursday, 28 February 2019 G Davidson
