1 2015-2016 Fifth Grade Parent Meeting
Welcome to West Lauderdale Middle School!

2 Introduction Ben Alexander- Principal
Bobbi Hodgins –Assistant Principal Fifth Grade Teachers – Shari Randall, Kathryn Calvert, Kara Skinner, Kristel Adams, Michelle Reid, and Emily Clay.

3 Overview of 5th Grade 5th Grade students at WLMS do not move by homerooms. Students have individual schedules designed to fit their academic needs.

4 Overview of 5th Grade All 5th grade students will take: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science/Social Studies, PE, Music, and Library. The vast majority of students take Odyssey classes which are enrichment/intervention classes too.

5 What Students Can Expect
Middle school students have more freedom than most students at elementary schools. Personal responsibility and independence are important traits. Students need to be organized in order to keep track of assignments.

6 How parents can help Encourage students to review assignments at home.
Ask the student about homework, assignments, and tests. Don’t assume they will tell you.

7 Ways for parents to check grades/assignments
InformationNow login – parents can access grades and attendance records by going through the Lauderdale County School District web site. You will receive new pin numbers when you receive your child’s schedule.

8 Ways for parents to check grades/assignments
Homework can be checked through the school website: Accelerated Reading/Accelerated Math can be checked online as well.

9 Dress Code Very similar to West Lauderdale Elementary.
Boys will be encouraged to tuck in shirts and wear belts.

10 Cafeteria 5th Grade eats lunch in the cafeteria from 11:45-12:10 each day. Students are required to type in their student identification numbers for lunch and/or breakfast. Students need to have these numbers memorized. Visit to deposit funds in cafeteria accounts.

13 Summer Registration Dates
All students will be required to register again this summer. Registration dates are: July 7 & 9 Noon-7 p.m. July a.m.-3 p.m. Documents required for registration include: Child’s Social Security Number Two residency documents

14 Schedules Student schedules will be available for pick up by the end of June. We will host a “Meet the Teacher” event during the latter part of July.
