1 SECOND THOUGHTS Ms. Rowley’s Weekly Newsletter Vol. 3 Math Reading
August 20, 2018 Reminder Snack this week: Charlie Snack next week: Carla Ms. Rowley’s Weekly Newsletter Vol. 3 Math Reading I have completed assessing student reading levels and this week I will begin to expect that students will choose books that are on their reading levels. I will provide them with lists of books that are on their levels. Students should have a book that is on his/her reading level at their desk at all times AND at home at all times. AR will begin in the next week or so. Students will be expected to take AR tests on each of the books that they read. I will continue assessing students on their math skills this week. Students continue to have a problem of the day. We have begun Unit 1 Frameworks in math which focuses on place value and number lines. Science Unit 1 will be about matter. Grammar/Writing Our phonics focus will continue with short vowel sounds. We have started Unit 1 in The Units of Writing, which focuses on writing a narrative. Students will be writing about a “small moment”. We will be setting up our writing folders this week. Social Studies Our first unit is about rules, laws, and government. As we continue to work on learning the rules of the class, we continue to think about, “what if everyone did that?” We will begin learning about our leaders; president, governor, and mayor.
