8 Science Science is taught within thematic units through experiment and non-fiction literature. First grade science topics include: Life Cycles Animal Research Magnetism Properties of Matter Weather

9 Social Studies Social Studies is also taught within thematic units through fiction and non-fiction literature, as well as with homework. First grade Social Studies topics include: History: Family & School Geography: Mapping Civics and Government: Power of Authority, American Symbols, Good Citizenship Economics: Goods and Services Public Discourse: Taking a stand, Service Learning

10 Behavior Expectations Positive Reinforcement
Effective learning is based on cooperation and respect for others. Our classroom is based on a positive approach to learning and the focus centers on affirming behaviors and manners that contribute to our classroom community. Consequences 1st consequence- verbal warning 2nd consequence-the student will miss 5 minutes of recess (think about it) 3rd consequence-the student will have recess detention.(teachers choice) 4th consequence- parent contact(parent contact) 5th consequence- the student will be taken to the office and parents will be called. Expectations -Listen and Follow Directions -Use Time Wisely -Be a Good Friend -Use Self-Control -Do your best Positive Reinforcement -Mr. Potato Head -verbal praise -rewards -notes home

11 Snacks/Birthday Treats
5-10 minute snack time your choice if you would like to send a snack in with your child on a daily basis healthy snacks ONLY crackers golf fish Fruit granola bars Water ONLY Birthday Treats Please send in enough for whole class NO CAKES OR CUPCAKE CAKES Feel free to send in a healthy snack 
