Pre Separation Element 34

2 Objectives Advise TSM's of the Permissive Temporary Duty (PTDY) benefit and excess leave Provide information on rules applying to allotted time for their relocation

3 QUALIFYING CRITERIA TSM's Separating at EAOS are not entitled
SM's retiring or involuntarily discharged due to HYT   SM's who are discharged due to medical reasons upon receipt of separation orders or authorization to be involuntarily discharged NOTE: Board findings are not reason to authorize PTDY- Such members must have - CO's authorization                                          - Separation Orders                                          - Authorized PTDY that will be  complete prior to separation date                                          - Not provided adjustments in separation dates to increase opportunity to utilize PTDY

4 Involuntary separations are entitled 10 days PTDY + no more than 30 days of excess leave
Retirees are entitled 20 days PTDY-Excess leave option is not available  Members stationed OCONUS may receive an additional 10 days if round trip option is used

6 RULES FOR PTDY Cannot combine with liberty weekends, special liberty or holidays to extend the period Can also be taken with chargeable leave at no cost to the government Can be taken in conjunction with transition leave Can be taken all at once, or in increments, except in cases of disability retirement or separation in which time constraints dictate it be taken all at once, or not at all

8 RULES FOR EXCESS LEAVE Excess leave option not available for retirees
No more than 30 days excess leave can be granted Granting PTDY/TAD or excess leave works with command discretion
