3 What Happened After Napoleon?
Europe was very unstable European leaders wanted to restore peace and create stability. A series of meetings, known as the Congress of Vienna, were organized to figure out how to fix Europe.

4 Klemens von Metternich
Leaders from Britain, France, Austria, Russia and Prussia met in Vienna for the meetings The most influential leader was Prince Klemens von Metternich (Austria) He did not believe in democracy He was a womanizer

5 Goals of the Congress of Vienna
The leaders came up with 3 goals: Contain France: Surround France with stronger countries Restore the Balance of Power: no country should ever have too much power Restore Royal Families: return the legitimate kings and queens of Europe to their thrones (Louis XVIII- France)

6 The Concert of Europe Many European countries still feared revolutions
A series of alliances were devised by Metternich to help Europe maintain the balance of power These alliances would assure that nations would help each other if any revolutions broke out

7 Revolution of 1848 Charles X ( )- wanted Absolute Monarchy- Fled to Great Britain Under Louis Phillippe ( )- Mobs overturned the monarchy (AGAIN) & set up a Republic (1848) Louis-Napoleon becomes President (Napoleon’s Nephew later crowned Emperor)- rules as a monarch 1875- Republic set up Again!!!
