This course is intended for: Anyone who wants a basic overview of K2 and how K2 is used. Anyone who wants to learn how to build applications with K2. Anyone who wants to move on to more advanced modules, for example Developers. This course sets base-level of knowledge on K2 to move on to other, more specialized courses. Therefore, this course is typically a prerequisite before you can move on to other K2 training courses. This course covers: Building simple to intermediate-level applications in K2 that include SmartObjects, SmartForms, and Workflows We will cover how to use standard and custom reporting in K2 Finally, the course covers some typical, day-to-day administration tasks in K2 After completing this course, you should be able to: Use K2 Designer to build basic applications in K2, that include SmartObjects, SmartForms, and workflows Report on K2 applications and know how to build custom reports Perform basic day-to-day administration tasks in K2 After completing this course, you can: Attempt the certification exam Move on to more advanced and specialized training modules Not do any more training, this course sets a good, basic level of understanding of K2

5 Course Modules Module Content
1. K2 Essentials What is K2, why would you use it, who uses K2, and how is K2 used by people? 2. Introduction to the K2 Designer Getting familiar with the K2 Designer design tool and the category system. 3. SmartObjects Fundamentals Building simple SmartObjects to store and access data. 4. SmartForms Fundamentals Building simple Forms and Views that include controls and rules, for capturing user input. 5. Workflow Fundamentals Building simple workflows that include system tasks and user tasks. 6. Using K2 applications How end-users interact with your applications, and how they interact with K2. 7. Reporting Fundamentals Standard reports in K2, and how the reports are used. 8. Administration Fundamentals Performing common, day-to-day administration tasks in K2. 9. SmartObjects – Intermediate Building more complex SmartObjects to allow K2 to integrate with other systems. 10. SmartForms – Intermediate Building more advanced Forms and Views with complex rules, validation and other features. 11. Workflows – Intermediate Building more advanced workflows with parallel paths, reminders, deadlines and integration with systems. 12. Reporting - Intermediate Building your own custom reports with K2 data providers. This course consists of 12 modules that build on each other. As you progress through this course, you will learn more advanced concepts about the main aspects of K2. You can “exit” the course at any time if you feel that you have gained the knowledge you need, but be aware that you will likely not be able to pass the Certification Exam for this course until you have completed all the modules in this course. This course also sets the “baseline” knowledge you will need if you want to complete some of the more advanced and specialized training courses available for K2. Most modules include a hands-on exercise where you will apply the knowledge you have gained in that module to build a K2 application. If you are attending a K2 training course, you will be provided with a “sandbox” environment where you can build out the application. The exercises are generic enough, however, for you to repeat the exercise in any environment where the appropriate version of K2 is installed. Briefly, the modules in this course are: K2 Essentials: Provides a general overview of K2 intended to answer questions like: What is K2, why would you use it, who uses K2, and how is K2 used by people? Introduction to the K2 Designer: Getting familiar with the K2 Designer design tool, and working with the category system. SmartObjects Fundamentals: Building simple SmartObjects to store and access data. SmartForms Fundamentals: Building simple Forms and Views in K2 SmartForms that include controls and rules for capturing user input. Workflow Fundamentals: Building simple workflows that include system tasks and user tasks. Using K2 applications: Describes how end-users interact with your applications, and how they might interact with K2. Reporting Fundamentals: Covers the standard reports available in K2, and how those reports are used. Administration Fundamentals: How to perform common, day-to-day administration tasks in K2. SmartObjects – Intermediate: Building more complex SmartObjects to allow K2 to integrate with other systems. SmartForms – Intermediate: Building more advanced Forms and Views with complex rules, validation and other features. Workflows – Intermediate: Building more advanced workflows with parallel paths, reminders, deadlines and integration with systems. 12. Reporting – Intermediate: Building your own custom reports with K2 data providers.

6 The application you will build in this course
You will be building a Leave Request Approval application in this course We will start by building a simple version with data storage, simple forms to capture and display that data, and a simple approval workflow In later modules, you will extend on this simple version to add more complex functionality e.g. connect to a database to read data, build a more complex workflow with reminders Most modules finish with an exercise to build the component you just learned about e.g. build a SmartObject after the SmartObject module, build a Form after the Forms module etc. The application will contain SmartObjects SmartForms Workflow The application you will build in this course The exercises in this course will give you valuable hands-on experience working with K2 to build an application You will be building a Leave Request Approval Application in this course, with data capture, simple forms, and a simple approval workflow. Depending on the training event you may be provided with a “sandbox” K2 environment to use for building the application, or you may need to use your own K2 environment. For most modules in this course, as you complete a module in the course, there will be an exercise to let you apply the knowledge you had just gained. For example, you will build a SmartObject after completing the SmartObjects module, and forms and views after completing the SmartForms module. You will build the application in two phases, roughly corresponding with the complexity of the material. The first version of the application will be simple, with no systems integration with other systems. It will include simple forms and views, and a simple workflow. This first version will be fully functional, and if you just want to know the basics of working with K2, you only need to build up to this first version of the application. The second, more advanced version of the application will extend the first version and includes integration with a Microsoft SQL database, more complex Forms, and a slightly more complex workflow. The application will contain SmartObjects, SmartForms, and a Workflow component. Click on the plus icons in the topic to see what each of those items will look like once they are built. If you want to, you can apply the same exercise in your own K2 environment to build the application in your own environment. The instructions should be generic enough and re-usable enough that they can be applied to any K2 Five environment.
