3. General information In the 2 nd century the Romans chose this place to settle here and created the city of Londinium. London is situated on the river Thames which was useful for merchant ships and trading, and today the river is still important for transport and tourism. The city of London is an important business and finance centre, and London has a huge influence on fashion, culture, politics, entertainment, media and sport across the UK and Europe. Londons climate is generally mild and damp. Summer Olympics games were there in 2012.

National Gallery was founded in 1824, nowadays there is an art museum. There are many statues and sculptures on the square.
