3 Unit & Lesson Essential Questions
How do classical/traditional literature develop universal themes? Why is background knowledge important? How does understanding figurative language help you understand the story? How does understanding a frame story also help you better understand the story?

4 THEME An underlying message that a writer wants the reader to understand. (MORAL or MAIN IDEA being communicated). In most cases, the theme is not stated directly, it is inferred.

5 Wednesday & Thursday 11/28 & 11/29 The Canterbury Tales Preparing To Teach Your Tale - Group Projects 3-2-1 REFLECTION & WARM UP Listen and watch this Canterbury Tales you tube video together as a class. Reflect on what you experienced: 3: EXPLAIN how is this song/rap more interesting to a student than just the text from the book? 2: DISCUSS why is having something visual in your presentation so important? 1: REFLECT on how students demonstrate their understanding of this song? (How could you QUIZ them on this rap video/song?) Take a few minutes with your groups to discuss. Be prepared to SHARE OUT your answers with the class.

6 How to Plan Your Time TODAY IN YOUR GROUPS
There should be 4 people per group. You have been asked to INVESTIGATE and DISECT four main topics in regards to your assigned tale: BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE/HISTORICAL CONTEXT & THEMES RHETORICAL DEVICES SUMMARY (PLOT & MORAL) FRAME STORY SIGNIFIGANCE

7 How to Plan Your Time TODAY IN YOUR GROUPS
Today, make sure that EVERYONE is familiar with the story itself. (USE YOUR RESOURCES…) Copies of story are provided online and in hard copy. You also have access to the internet! Then, divide and conquer. DISECT your tale. ALSO, before you leave, have a game plan for tonight and tomorrow (homework). Who is working on what components? What do you want to accomplish outside of class? You will have 45 minutes on Monday to finalize the details of you presentation and PRACTICE. We will begin presenting on Monday & finish any groups we may not get to on Wednesday.

PLAY – act it out SONG/RAP – modernize it and perform it with music in the background PROPS – part of the play MODERN VERSION – tell the whole story in everyday language POSTER of some sort…. Commercial Movie Trailer Advertisement for the Paper

MATCHING GAME JEOPARDY TYPE GAME HAVE THEM DRAW SOMETHING – GIVE THEM PERAMETERS (A RUBRIC) HAVE THEM CREATE A COMIC STRIP REMEMBER: THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!!!
