10. Test Prep Entry 63: Drafting an Introduction
I sat in row six, seat four on the left side of Mr. Switkowski’s fourth grade classroom at Bedelle Elementary. Hot afternoon sunshine beat down on my head through the long row of windows, and a feeling of dread washed over me as I stared at the homework assignment on the board. The words, “First Book Report Due Tomorrow” were scrawled in bold red. We had a whole month to read one book of choice. I read my book, Beezus and Ramona, during in-class reading time, but instead of reading at home every night, I watched cartoons. How would I read the whole book and do the book report by tomorrow?
I’m going to tell you about the time I did something that made me proud. It all started when I did something that did not make me proud. I didn’t finish the book I was reading for a book report. I did the report anyway. I got an “F” on my report. Then I learned my lesson and finished that book and many others.
