8 And humans dealt with this need by using fossil fuels.
But a growing population meant that human need for resources—for energy—was growing, too. And humans dealt with this need by using fossil fuels.

16 The countries who modernized and industrialized first were at a great advantage! (Europe and North America)

17 Many industrialized countries used their technological advantages to conquer weaker countries (imperialism).

18 Africa and South East Asia were carved up by European powers like a Thanksgiving turkey. The Europeans wanted more resources for their factories and new markets to sell their items in, so they conquered countries.

19 Every country wanted to prove they were better than every other country. That is one reason why they built up huge empires!
