1 independent clause & 0 dependent clauses Compound (CD) 2 or more independent clauses & 0 dependent clauses Complex (CX) 1 independent clause & at least 1 dependent clause Compound-Complex (CC) 2 or more independent clauses & at least 1 dependent clause

3 Steps (in red) Write “c/b <your name>”
Circle all of the simple subjects. (grouped subjects count as 1) Review the clauses in each sentence and identify each sentence as simple, compound, complex, or compound-complex. Label each sentence with “S” for simple, “CD” for compound, “CX” for complex, or “CC” for compound-complex.

5. Place chart under your name and fill out: Type of Sentence Amount Simple Compound Complex Compound-Complex

5 Review Once corrected, review your Compare/Contrast Essay. The ratio should be close to the ideal ratio of 3:2:2:1 (S:CD:CX:CC). If it is not, revise sentences to get your ratio closer to the ideal ratio. Once revised, title your essay as Compare/Contrast Essay Final Draft and have it ready to submit on Monday, July 17.
