3 *Regular attendance and promptness are very important.
Many activities and lessons cannot be made-up. The tardy bell rings at 8:40. *If your child is going to be absent please call or me and let me know. *New school policy requires a written excuse within 3 days of the absence.

4 * All absences require documentation in order to be excused.
Attend today… Achieve Tomorrow State law requires that a student in grades PK – 4th be subject to compulsory attendance rules. Which absences are excused? Medical absences Late arrivals with a Dr. note Weather conditions making travel dangerous (will be determined by the district) Extenuating circumstances approved by the Principal Religious holy days Court appearances * All absences require documentation in order to be excused. When my child is absent… Send a signed doctor or handwritten note within 3 days of the student return to school. 5 or more absences due to personal illness will require a signed note from the physician. Calls and s will not excuse an absence; follow up with a Dr. or handwritten note. Too many absences?… A student is in violation of the compulsory attendance law if: Is absent from school for three or more days, or part of the day, within a four week period without excuse . Late arrivals and early releases that do not meet the criteria set by the district will count against the student attendance. 5 *If you change the way your child goes home,
I must have a written note stating the change with the date(s) included. *If you need to pick your child up early, you must sign them out in the front office. *Please try not to make changes after 3pm.

6 Canyon Pointe is a Great Expectations (GE) school.
GE is a professional development program that provides teachers with the skills needed to create harmony and excitement within the school atmosphere…elements that are basic for inspiring students to pursue academic excellence.

7 We will value one another as unique and special individuals.
We will not laugh at or make fun of another person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or put downs. 3. We will use good manners saying please, thank you and excuse me; and allow others to go first. 4. We will cheer each other to success. 5. We will help one another whenever possible. We will recognize every effort and applaud it. 7. We will encourage each other to do our best. 8. We will practice virtuous living using the Life Principles.

8 *Please help your child memorize their ID number.
*Ice cream is available to purchase everyday. You can put a limit on their account (Fridays only). *Birthday cupcakes are to be passed out the last 10 minutes of the school day by me. OR you can buy ice cream passes for the class. *Please try to keep the visits to special occasions so students can eat with their peers.

9 *Report cards are issued once every 9 weeks.
*Kindergarten is graded with an E, S, or N. *Please take the report card out of the envelope, keep the report card and sign/return the envelope. *Please make sure to sign up for a parent/teacher conference with me to discuss your child’s strengths so far.

10 Students will be assessed on the following criteria for the 1st 9 weeks:
*Identify upper and lower case letters and sounds. *Listens and participates in Reader’s & Writer’s Workshop. *Identify high frequency words: 9-10=E; 7-8=S; 6 or below=N. *Distinguishes b/w rhyming and non-rhyming.

11 *Writes their name. *Generates topics of interest for writing.
*Writes or dictates to tell a story or communicate information. *Rereads and shares writing with others. *Speaks in complete sentences. *Writes their name.

12 Students will be assessed on the following criteria for the 1st 9 weeks:
*Reads and writes numbers 0-5. *Identifies the number associated with a collection of objects 0-5.

13 properties of objects: such as color, shape and texture.
*Identifies physical properties of objects: such as color, shape and texture.

14 *Is acquiring social studies skills and concepts:
such as distinguishing between good choices from bad choices; understanding why we have rules in school and at home.

15 effect their report card grade.
Music, Art and PE! *Your child has PE every day; therefore, needs to wear closed-toe shoes with a rubber sole daily. *If they do not wear the proper shoes, and/or they do not follow the expectations of the Special’s teachers, they will receive an Oops Slip which can effect their report card grade.
