Duties are listed on p. 122 and know the elastic clause Bicameral System – Congress is made up of 2 parts or houses. House of Representatives The Senate

9 The Senate (Upper House)
Each state has 2 senators Senators serve 6 year terms Must be 30 years of age and a U.S. citizen for 9 years

10 The House of Representatives (Lower House)
Based on population, according to a census taken every ten years Number is now set at 435 Reps serve 2 year terms Must be 25 years of age and a U.S. citizen for 7 years

11 How a Bill becomes a Law The House or Senate can introduce a bill
A committee from that house must approve the bill The bill is debated The House and Senate committees compromise on the bill. House and Senate pass the revised bill The President signs the bill or …

Powers are listed on p.124 Chief Executive is the President Must be 35 years of age and a natural born citizen Serves for 4 years for a maximum of 2 terms (8 years) Other Members – VP and the Cabinet
