(Sneakers) Tuesday: 10/2 - Music Wednesday: 10/3 – Library (Books) Thursday: 10/4 – Health (Sneakers) Friday: 10/5 - Art Mrs. Kline’s Column October 1 - 5 2018 Things to Note… Please look over the Homework Practice Log for what is strongly encouraged to be focused on at home this week and sign the log to acknowledge you have seen it. Return this on the last day of the week. Please keep math fact flash cards at home. Additional cards will come home throughout the year. Please check the home practice log to see when new cards are on the way! Great job wearing sneakers to school for P.E./Health! Be sure to check dates for Library/Technology to return books. All Fundations Unit Packets are to be kept at home for continued practice, even after a unit is completed. Skills spiral back through multiple units. We are in need of disinfecting wipes. As always, THANK YOU for your generous donations to keep our classroom as germ-free as possible! Dates to Remember/ News/Upcoming Events Monday 10/1 – APT evening meeting 7:00 – 8:00pm Friday 10/5 – Last day for Gifts N Things Fundraiser as well as BOOK BINGO 6pm – 8pm in the Cafeteria  Monday 10/8 – No School Friday 10/12 – 2:30 Early Dismissal Mrs. Kline’s Contact Information Ext. 4118 Our Academic Agenda Language Arts: Phonics Focus – This week we will continue in unit 2 of Fundations and practice blending and reading three-sound short vowel words (also known as CVC words). We will also continue to segment and spell them. New trick words will be introduced this week as well! These words are not sounded out, but rather remembered as if by sight. Trick words for this week: is, his & of. Writing Focus – This week students will be visualizing and writing about what they want to be when they grow up. We will remain focused on capitalizing letters at the beginning of sentences and placing periods at the end. Students will be rereading their writing to check to see that it makes sense as well as relating illustrations to their writing as best they can. Literature Connection: When I Grow Up by Peter Horn Math: This week students will continue to analyze and solve related story problems and participate in activities that require combining two numbers up to a total of 20. They will also remain focused on using pictures, numbers, words and/or standard notation to represent a solution to a problem that requires addition. By the end of the week, students will begin understanding, representing and solving problems involving subtraction.
