1 NERC LMTF Update Update on Key Topics
Dmitry Kosterev, Ryan Quint, Mohamed Osman, NERC LMTF WECC LMTF Meeting March 2017

2 Key Focus Areas Model benchmarking & uniform software implementation
Data quality checks – global parameters Default data sets Guideline on modeling DER in dynamic load models Guideline on Modeling DER in Dynamic Load Models – APPROVED Guideline on DER Modeling – UNDER DEVELOPMENT Guideline on load developing composition data – APPROVED Load modeling in real-time or operations studies Industry webinar – COMPLETE System studies forum

3 Benchmarking Monitoring software vendors, EPRI, and industry efforts on benchmarking Supporting coordination between groups as much as possible Hoping for uniform implementation by June Would like to inform NERC Planning Committee at June PC meeting! Once complete, we can move on to other necessary topics Uniform DER modeling implementation Pushing DER modeling guidelines into practice

4 Default Data Sets Continuing discussions and support on default data sets Plan to expand default sets based on industry experience

5 Load Model Composition Guideline
APPROVED by NERC Planning Committee Available on NERC PC Reliability Guidelines page Source: BPA Source: WECC Source: CEUS

6 Industry Webinar Webinar complete and posted on NERC LMTF webpage
Please share with members with load modeling questions

7 Reliability Guideline: DER in Dynamic Load Models
Guideline on DER Modeling in Dynamic Load Models APPROVED Sets adaptable framework for DER modeling Use of U-DER and R-DER for modeling different types of DER Next phase is to provide guidance/starting point for modeling U-DER and R-DER with actual models and modeling data

8 Survey on Dynamic Load Modeling in the Operations Horizon
Survey developed by NERC LMTF members Survey sent to NERC LMTF members Each operating entity expected to provide response NERC Staff will be following up to ensure responses provided Focuses Benefits/needs Relation to planning realm Impacts on online transient stability analysis Inclusion of induction motor load of some sort Obstacles, challenges, path forward

9 Next Meetings In-Person Meeting:
April 18-19, 2017 in Atlanta, GA (NERC) Full day/half day In conjunction with NERC SAMS meeting
