11 Climate for Learning and Working
PIC September 11, 2017 Climate For Learning and Working Coordinator Kelly Krug

12 What is Climate? The collective feelings and attitudes that are elicited by an environment. In a positive climate, people feel: Respected Accepted Included A sense of belonging Safe – emotionally and physically We create or break the climate – therefore we have the power to change the climate if necessary What makes this tough is that everyone is unique. What I need in order to feel this way is not always what others need.

13 Character Attributes in Action
Be honest and caring Notice & thank others who who show good character Model the character attributes (Even when it’s hard) Expect from ourselves what we expect from our students -we are very good about teaching young children about the character attributes and saying how we want them to act but as people get older, we aren’t always explicit and we assume that they know how they should behave -but remember that character attributes are developmental in nature, what respect looks like to a 6 year old is much different to someone who is 16 or 36 or even 66. -the character attributes are all connected so they can’t be done in isolation. It important when you are being honest consider whether you are being respectful and caring

14

15 Small Group Question: How do we efficiently function to realize our PIC mandate? Timed individual brainstorm Posting ideas - sift and sort Each group to present no more than 3 ideas to larger group.

16 Large Group Question: What do we want to DO this year to realize our vision/mandate?

17 When people share a common vision, they can perform feats that would otherwise be impossible.”
-Robert Fritz
