Condensation - changing of water vapor (water in the air) into a liquid Precipitation - falling of water back to the earth as snow, sleet, hail, or rain Evaporation - process of water becoming gas

5 Transpiration Evaporation

6 There is water present in both plants and bodies of water (rivers, lakes, oceans).
a. Water leaves a plant and enters the atmosphere through the process of TRANSPIRATION. b. Water leaves a body of water and enters the atmosphere through the process of EVAPORATION.

8 When it is in the atmosphere, it is called water vapor
When it is in the atmosphere, it is called water vapor. It will eventually become a cloud through the process of condensation.

10 The water falls from the cloud as some form of :’( weather through a process of precipitation.

11 CARBON CYCLE

12 Carbon Cycle 1. There is a lot of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air.
2. CO2 is taken out of the air by plants through photosynthesis.

13 Carbon Cycle 3. BOTH plants and animals release CO2 into the air through respiration.

14 Carbon Cycle 4. Decaying plants, animals, and waste (decomposition)
after millions of years will be changed into fossil fuels.

15 Carbon Cycle 5. Fossil fuels can be burned by automobiles, releasing carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. This is called combustion.

16 NITROGEN CYCLE

17 Nitrogen Cycle There is A LOT of nitrogen in the air but plants and
animals CAN’T use it! 80% of the Earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen

18 Nitrogen Cycle To use the nitrogen, bacteria “fix” nitrogen from the
air for the plants = called nitrogen Fixation Bacteria, that live on the roots of some plants, change nitrogen into ammonia, a form of nitrogen plants can use.

19 Animals get nitrogen from the plants by eating them
Animals get nitrogen from the plants by eating them. When plants and animals die, their decaying bodies release nitrogen back through the process decomposition.

21 Phosphorous Cycle Phosphorous is a key component of genetic material (DNA and RNA) Phosphorus comes from erosion of rocks and decomposition It is absorbed by plant roots, we get it by eating them
