CCTV System for Radiation Work Management
Good afternoon, I’d like to introduce myself. My Name is lee gui jong I’m from youngkwang NPP unit 5&6. I’m pleased to have an apportunity to be acquainted with you. Radiation safety section is very important in nuclear power plant. As you know well, We are fully concious of the role of Radiation safety and make a lot of efforts to reduce radiation exposure Today’s presentation is about the one out of our various efforts Topic is CCTV SYSTEM for radiation work management Please listen to my presentation Yonggwang NPP Unit 5 & 6

Ⅱ. Brief Overview of Radiation protection
□ Statutory Exposure Dose limit Category Workers Frequent Visitors General Public Effective Dose Limit 100mSv per 5 years 12mSv per year 1mSv per year □ Site Exposure Dose limit Next, I’d like to brief overview of radiation protection This table is statutory exposure dose limit for workers, Effective dose limit is 100mSv per 5 years for frequent visitors, 12mSv per year. for general public, 1mSv per year But, YGN unit 5&6 control more strictly than statutory limit. We have site exposure dose limit. for workers, Effective dose limit is 16 mSv per year. for frequent visitors, 10mSv per year. Category Workers Frequent Visitors General Public Effective Dose Limit 16 mSv per year 10 mSv per year 1 mSv per year

Anticipated Exposure (man-mSv)
Ⅱ. Brief Overview of Radiation protection [cont’d] □ Radiation Work Control Anticipated Exposure (man-mSv) Counter plan < 10 Review and check work order 10 ~ 70 Work Order Approval 70 ~ 200 ALARA Acting Level Committee Review > 200 ALARA Committee review And we review and control every radiation work as following standards If expected exposure is under 10man-mSv, we do not involve But if it is over 10man-mSv, we should review work order plan and decide whether to approve or not. If it is High radiation work, we should have ALARA committee review

Ⅱ. Brief Overview of Radiation protection [cont’d]
□ Collective Radiation Exposure Our collective exposure is relatively low. However, this is not an excellent result for a brand new plant. We are increasing our efforts to efficiently manage and control radiation work. Year

Ⅲ. Description of CCTV system
□ Purpose Radiation Exposure Reduction Efficient Radiation Safety Control in RCA Continuous Check-up for important works and facilities integrity □ Characteristics Real-time information by LAN Movable Cameras can support important or high radiation work anywhere We installed CCTV SYSTEM for the purpose of radiation exposure reduction, efficient Radition Safety control in RCA and continuous Check-up works and facilites integrity Through cctv system we can see and review the situation of work without going to working area And supervisor can direct to workers by announcement or telephone. So, we are able to minimize the number of workers. and we can reduce radiation exposure and waste Aditionally, we can control Radition Safety and check up continuously without going there Main Characteristics are as follows real time information by lan and movable cameras can support important and high radiation work anywhere

Ⅳ. Cases for use of CCTV system
□ Removal of remaining Thermal Sleeve (T/S) Unit 5 third Planned Outage (37 days) <Related event description> During the first outage of unit 5, a metal object was discovered in the Reactor Bottom Head. (conformed by Remote Video Inspection) As a result of the specific inspection, three metal objects were discovered. These objects have been identified as missing thermal sleeves from the Safety Injection Nozzle. Now, I’ll explain to you cases for use of cctv system May we had a work for removal of remaining thermal sleeve At that Time we used cctv system for alara control, Many person watched the situation of the work through cctv for you a understanding I’ll explain you related event 본문 A remaining T/S was planned to be removed during the third Outage

□ Monitoring T/S Work through CCTV System This slide is saved screens monitored by cctv ststem at that time The work area is high radiation zone. The number of person coming in and out was limited to actual worker and they works in shifts. Next shift worker followed up work flow throgh cctv and they are able to execute their work without time delay Without cctv, we should have much more exposure and waste

□ Result of ALARA Control Target (mSv) Result (mSv) % Dose 160 73.91 53.8 Reason of exposure Reduction Content Reduction Rate(%) Work control (Lead shielding and vest) 10 Reduction of the Number of person( Effect of CCTV) Optimization of Working time (Effect of CCTV) 6 Cancellation of some work 28.8 SUM 53.8 Result of ALARA control was good Initial target was 160mSv, but the result was 73mSv. 53.8% was reduced There are several Reasons of exposure reduction Among the reasons, CCTV system contributed to exposure reduction. It reduced the persons and working time
22
Ⅳ. Cases for use of CCTV system [cont’d]
□ Effect of using CCTV System Reduction of Exposure : 16 man-mSv (10%) About 15 persons supervised the work through CCTV during the working period (11days) = persons x staying time x Radiation level in the area Optimization of Working Time : 9.6 man-mSv (6%) Reduction of Radioactive Waste : 1 Drum About 220 pairs of Rubber gloves / paper protection Clothes We analyzed the effect of using cctv system Exposure reduction was 16 man-mSv. It was 10% reduction. During the working period About 15 persons supervised the work through cctv without going there So, we roughly estimated the effect by using the following factors persons, staying time and radiation level in the area Optimization of Working Time reduced 9.6 man-mSv. It was 6% reduction And we Reduced 1Drum of Radioactive Waste

□ Result of ALARA Control Target (mSv) Result (mSv) % Dose 6.69 5.75 14 Number of workers : 16 Total working time : 6 hrs Result of ALARA control is good Compare with Target dose, the result is % was reduced
25
Ⅴ. Effects Reduction of the number of person coming in and out
Reduction of exposure dosage Reduction of radioactive waste Savings in protection supplies Now, I’ll summarize effects for use of cctv system First, we can reduce the number of person coming in and out we can reduce exposure dosage we can reduce radioactive waste we can save protection supplies we can real time checkup in the office we can control radiation work to be safe in the office Real-time checkup in the office Radiation safety control in high radiation areas

Ⅵ. OSART GOOD PRACTICE □ IAEA OSART Review
Duration : ~ 5.3 Reviewed items - 7 items besides management, organization, & administration sections of YGN 5&6 Result of review in Radiation Protection Section - 2 good practices out of 10 good practices (No proposal for improvement) From april.16 to may Our plant was reviewed by IAEA OSART Our plant were evaluated that The result of review in radiation protection section was very good We recived two good practices out of 10 good practices And no recommendation CCTV SYSTEM was evaluated as a good practice. CCTV System was evaluated as “Good Practice” the other is RIS (Radiation Information System)
27
Ⅵ. Conclusion Our will and endeavor should be followed
Radiation safety control is requisites for lasting nuclear industry Our various efforts will help to improve radiation safety control whether it is large or not Actually, CCTV system is small effort but the such effort will makes a good fruit I’d like to complete by saying conclusion of this presentation (본문) Thanks for your attention on my presentation Our will and endeavor should be followed

Maintenance of Leak Valve (SI-V522)
This is leak valve and this is valve seat Valve seats is a litle scratched. At the time of not/nop hot vapor was spreaded through this scratched crevice Director general instructed to cool down the plant and repair that valve When the valve was removed from pipe for repair, the pipe was ice-plugged against water missing This is liquefied nitrogen used for ice plugging
