In June 1798 USA stops trade with France and begins to attack their ships
This led to the Quasi-War
Undeclared war at sea b/w USA and France
In Sept the 2 countries sign the Convention of 1800
Eased tensions and ended the Quasi-War
Ended the alliance b/w USA and France too.

Alien Act: allowed President to arrest and deport immigrants w/o trial
takes 14 yrs to become citizen
most immigrants voted for Dem-Rep Party
Sedition Act: made it a crime for citizens to publicly denounce federal gov’t
both of these target the Dem-Rep Party!!!!!
UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!

in response to Alien and Sedition Acts
declared them unconstitutional
introduced the idea of nullification
that states had the power to nullify (invalidate) federal laws
States' Rights!!!
