3 Marketing is not a four letter word...
Use what you have Take a look at the skill set around you It doesn’t have to be hard or expensive Start asking questions The rule of seven and other marketing reminders Good design rules, but something is (almost) always better than nothing

4 It’s okay to try something new, you can always go back to the way it was before if it goes up in flames. But you never know, those flames might make it fly!

5 19/02/2019 Website Here’s a great example of “but we’ve always done it this way”. We had an opportunity to have our new website donated to us. Our old site was in html, and took a lot of work to get updated from time to time, and keep fresh. Our new website, while having its issues, allows us to keep the content fresh and updated on a minute to minute basis instead of weekly. We also went from only having a few people who can edit, to a whole team, with someone in each department. This took work off my shoulders and allowed me to spread it out and build capacity.

6 Do you use Google Analytics?
This looks really complicated, but if you’re looking to make changes to or improve your website. I highly recommend analytics! I could teach a whole class on this one and don’t want to dive TOO deep – but this is incredibly useful when looking to freshen up old content and predict patron behaviours. This might be a good time to delve a little into other analytics too.

7 Polling doesn’t have to be hard
Here are some easy off the cuff examples: How did you hear about this program? Take a mental note of what your most common response is It may encourage you to try something new, or confirm what you’re doing is the right approach How do you like to find out what’s happening around town? Perhaps there’s a must see bulletin board you want to make sure your programming is listed on Maybe word of mouth, or the listings in the BDN Do you use social media? Find out if social media is a priority for your attendees If so what do they use? Would a newsletter be helpful for your patron?

8 Social Media Consistency Scheduling (hootsuite) Humor Personality
PHOTOS Videos We are storytellers! Likes and Dislikes Invite, Invite, Invite! Events Page Friends Be consistent with your posting, set schedule you can stick to; Schedule everything that you can! Start with one week, move to two, three and more! (That doesn’t mean you can’t post in the moment, just reschedule) Use humour. Librarians are often seen as authoritarian, A little humour helps! With that – show your personality. We’re know your library is awesome, show everyone else why! Show off those unique personalities – BUT be careful not to get political or step over lines. If you are posting on Facebook – you better have a photo. Even a photo alone with no text, is better than text by itself! Tell your story! Use social media to tell the story of your library. This is a great inexpensive way to feature patrons (with their permission), activities, fun facts, fun stuff and more. Its SOCIAL media Be sure to like your posts as you personally – but double check that you aren’t liking it as your library. It’s a faux paux and throws off the algorithims INVITE like it’s your job. Invite to your page, invite when someone likes a post and already isn’t your fan, Invite your friends to like your page and support you!

9 Meet Canva! (Your new best friend)
It’s FREE or you can upgrade to a paid membership. Lets get real... It’s time to ditch publisher. Canva will move you and your design into the 21st century! And they have new templates every day that you can adjust for your needs. You can have a team, and so much more. I could teach a 50 minute class on this... But it does everything from fliers, posters, brochures, facebook headers, website templates and SO. MUCH. MORE.
