5 Early/Late Readers Students are assessed for phonics - decoding, fluency, and accuracy. They are placed early or late according to their educational needs. Students will be receiving intense phonics instruction at their level to boost their reading skills. Students may go to a different classroom for instruction. These groups are fluid, so as a child’s needs change, his or her group will change.

6 School and Classroom Rules Do Your “BEST”
1. Be Responsible Complete and return homework on time Take care of your book box and supplies Choose a ‘Smart Seat’ 2. Be Respectful Pay attention when the teacher is talking Follow directions Treat others the way you would like to be treated 3. Be Persistent Don’t give up, keep trying Learn from your mistakes

8 Brag Tag Positive Behavior System

9 How Brag Tags Work! We will be using a ‘Positive Behavior’ System.
Students who follow the rules and demonstrate positive behaviors will have an opportunity to earn Brag Tags and Crusader Coupons. When they receive a tag, they will glue it in their ‘Brag Tag’ book and write why they received the tag. If a student makes a bad choice, the teacher will speak to them to help redirect their behavior. If the behavior continues, the teacher will sit down with the student and help them fill out a ‘Think Sheet’. When a student receives a ‘Think Sheet’ from the teacher, a ‘Time Out’ slip for missed recess or a ‘Classroom Referral’, they will take home a copy to be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. At the end of each day. students will either have their hand stamped to show they had a ‘great’ day or be bringing home a paper for you to sign.

10 Think Sheet

11 Homework Policy On Mondays your child will bring home a homework folder containing a Reading Log and any individualized practice your child may benefit from. They will work on the activities each night and return it completed on Friday. In addition there will be daily math homework which will be completed every night and returned the next day. Every student needs a folder to transport homework to and from school daily. We will check and record all math homework daily and the Reading Log each Friday. Parents can check online to see how their child is doing and if he or she is missing any assignment on the district’s Power School website. Some suggestions to help your child do his/her best with homework: Provide supplies needed to complete the homework Find a quiet place to work at home Choose a set time to do homework every day Make homework a priority at home Monitor/Check your child’s homework each night when finished
