1 Lesser Known Capabilities of IEEE 1451
Lesser Known Capabilities of IEEE TEDS and TMS Software Support For Each April 2002

2 Core Functionality of IEEE 1451.4

3 Core Functionality of Dot 4
Define a Dot 4 Object Mixed Mode Interface From Host To Sensor Analog/Digital Digital Mode Accesses TEDS Transducer Electronic Data Sheet Self Identification Self Configuration

4 Core Functionality of Dot 4
Mixed Mode Interface To Sensors ICP®, IEPE Inverted Excitation Multi-Wire Sensors Use Existing Wires, or… Add Another The physical layer of Dot 4 specifies two different ways of implementing TEDS in legacy designs. Consider the two cases: CASE 1: No Additional Wires Mode Physical Wire A B Normal Power Ground Digital Mode Data Ground CASE 2: Additional Wires A B C Normal Power Ground <Not Existing> Digital Mode None Data Ground Of course, ICP® sensors fall into Case 1. Case 2 exists primarily to accommodate legacy B&K microphone equipment that is currently in the field. It also accomodates sensors that may have AC power excitation.
