2 Introductions Lab Today Before we start,
essential part of the study of chemistry. Today what is expected in a lab setting. Before we start, Introduce yourself to your neighbors.

4 Safety Rules Read and sign by second lab meeting Exercises
Safety Checklist Exercises Walk around and show safety equipment Students sign rules and return by second lab day

5 Drawer Procedures No assigned drawers – All use top three!
Preliminary Check Exit Check Lockable Drawers As Needed Example: Storage of product for next time. Please decide on a work station and do a preliminary check of your lockers. Hand out Blue Checklists

6 Make Ups Three week window to finish any lab
Week before – Normal Points Week of – Normal Points Week after – Half Credit Ask students for examples of potential challenges/difficulties/dilemmas.

7 Prelab Protocol Internet Videos/Web Pages/”Key Sheets”
Notebooks Title and Purpose Written Cannot start the lab until your instructor has signed under your purpose in your notebook. Show Lab page and how video works Walk the students over to the library Have them look up there first day page and do the prelab for next week Break – Give return time.

8 Lab Completion protocol
Partner Signature on last data page means Drawers are complete Safety – nothing is left out which is unsafe Clean – bench and equipment is clean Instructor Signature on last data page You were in attendance, acted in a safe manor, and left the lab in good condition.

9 Formal Lab Reports Two Formal Lab Reports
Due One Week before Midterm Exam Due One Week Before Final Exam Show Formal Lab Report Specifics

10 Grading Ten Labs Completed in notebook Two Formal Lab Reports
100 points Two Formal Lab Reports Lab Final 50 points Self Evaluation/Instructor Evaluation – safety, cleanliness, punctuality, respectful behavior, persistence
