31 The testing and application process
Step 1 If you are thinking of applying to Colyton Grammar School you must register your child to take the Year 7 Entrance test. Complete the Online Registration Form available through the school website.

33 The testing and application process for Year 7 Applicants
Step 2 Your child sits the Year 7 entrance tests at Colyton Grammar School. Step 3 You receive the results of the tests. Step 4 Complete the CAF, including any grammar school for which you wish your child to be considered.

36 The testing and application process
Step 5 Colyton Grammar School supply the results of the tests in rank order to the Local Authority. Step 6 Devon Local Authority coordinates all the offers and allocates a place at the highest ranked (on CAF) school for which the child is eligible. Step 7 The home Local Authority notifies parents of allocation on the national offer day. If you are allocated a grammar school , the school will make a formal offer of a place which you must accept or decline in writing.

37 The 11+ Consortium The South West Consortium of Grammar Schools (Churston Ferrers Grammar School, Torquay Boys’ Grammar School and Torquay Girls’ Grammar School) will use the same CEM tests on the same day as Colyton Grammar School. If your child sits the tests at another school in the consortium, you need to notify us so that the test score information is shared.

Two separate multiple-choice papers each containing a mixture of questions which test:- Verbal ability Numerical ability Non-verbal ability Each paper approx. 50 minutes Extra time (up to 25%) available for pupils with recognised special needs i.e. Pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan or an established pattern of requiring extra time,

“What is the pass mark?” This decision will be made by the Governing Body Admissions’ Committee prior to the publication of results. This pass mark does not guarantee a place at Colyton Grammar School as it is likely that more applicants will achieve the pass mark than we have places for and we will therefore apply our oversubscription criteria.

“How can I help prepare my child for the test?” There are no CEM past papers available, however, there is a familiarisation paper available on the school website. Children will be successful if they have a good understanding of Key Stage 2 work up to the end of Year 5 and have read widely.
