The Future of the School I came to this school from an outstanding primary school because I saw both the potential and the challenges. The Local Authority have indicated they expect to expand the school to two forms of entry by Sept 2017. The school has rapidly improved in the last three years and is continuing to improve. Everything is in place for the school to be even more successful in the future. Pupil numbers continue to increase and we expect to be oversubscribed this year. Reception Year and Year 1 are now over capacity.

What we Can Offer An exciting and engaging curriculum with lots of enrichment activities including trips A wide ranging programme of clubs including a breakfast club A real school community where each child is known and valued grounded in a strong village community Rapidly improved academic standards Consistently good teaching from a dedicated staff team An approachable school which engage with you on supporting your child through the next steps in their education

What OFSTED Said Marden Primary School required improvement based on historical data from 2011 and 2012 and teaching required improvement from 2011 and 2012. I knew that when I came and that is why Governors and the Local Authority appointed me. There has been rapid improvement in the last 2/3 years (see the report and current data) Leadership had already improved to good and the behaviour and safety of pupils was already good. We are due an inspection. School and Local Authority are confident the school is now good.

What OFSTED said about teaching Quotes from the report “All the teaching seen during the inspection was good, with some that was outstanding” “The Local Authority confirms ….currently teaching is good” “Consistency across the whole school” “Reading is taught well across the whole school and pupils show a clear enjoyment of books” “Since the appointment of the new headteacher and his leadership team the quality of teaching has seen marked improvements” This has continued to improve since the inspection particularly the amount of outstanding teaching seen.

What OFSTED said about Achievement “ All pupils are making good and for some better progress” “Achievement is improving rapidly in all subjects but over time it has not been good” “ A marked rise in standards and rapidly improving rates of progress for all groups of pupils” “Leaders have set challenging targets ….. which are bringing about rapid improvements in all areas” “Present Year 6 are on track to exceed national expectations” “Attainment in mathematics has improved rapidly in the last few months” “The most able pupils are currently making much better progress across the school” This has continued and improved further since November 2013

What OFSTED said about Leadership Leadership and management are good because, in a relatively short time, they have brought about rapid changes and improvements to the school. Since his appointment, the headteacher has developed a strong vision and a strong and clear drive for improvement. This has resulted in a marked rise in standards and rapidly improving rates of progress for all groups of pupils. The headteacher and senior leadership team have worked hard to eliminate any teaching that does not come up to standard and make sure that all teaching is now good. The school works effectively with parents and they are positive about the school and the service it provides. These improvements have continued and become embedded. Effective leadership will continue to raise achievement and the quality of teaching further – it has already done so and OFSTED have recognised this very clearly in the report.
